JIM BUDREAU has litigated complex federal and state criminal law cases since 1990 when he began trying criminal cases after clerking for a Judge in the Massachusetts Superior Court. In his first trial, his client was acquitted of trafficking over a kilo of illegal substances. In his next trial, he won an acquittal in a high profile trial where the script writer for Miami Vice was accused of a fifteen year minimum mandatory felony. JIm went on to represent high profile clients including talk show hosts, rappers, business men, lawyers, organized crime professionals and law enforcment officials throughout New England. He has won acquittals and reversals in multiple first degree murder cases, white collar offenses, organized criminal trafficking and drug offenses in federal and state court. Jim has also taught at Harvard Law School and ran the Hale and Dorr Employment Law Clinic. Jim opened up his own office in 1994 with a focus on federal and state criminal law, appeals, complex civil litigation and employment law. Jim has taught at Harvard Law School, clerked for a judge and helped run Harvard's Hale and Door employment law clinic. Jim practiced of counsel with Oteri, Weinberg and Lawson, a firm specializing in complex federal trial work, for over fifteen years before joining Carney and Bassil in 2008. Outside of the courtroom, Jim has been on numerous Boards including the youth advocacy group Sociedad Latina and a computer educational program for under privileged youth. Jim is also on the Board of Directors for the Massachusetts Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers and is a member of the National Association of Criminal Defense Attorneys. Jim's group has approximately ten lawyers and represents individual and corporate clients in cases ranging from complex state and federal criminal matters to regulatory and licensing hearings and family law litigation. The experience of these lawyers ranges from having worked as prosecutors, judicial clerks, honored as “Lawyer of the Year” by the Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly, assistant bar counsel for the BBO and public defenders.
